DIY Homemade Irish Cream Christmas Gift

DIY Homemade Irish Cream Christmas Gift - BirdsParty.com

Christmas is only a couple of weeks away, but fear not! You can still whip up some yummy delights to give away to family and friends (or to keep and enjoy all to yourself...talk about scrooooge!!) :)

I have always favored "foodie" gifts for their personal touch, as opposed to store-bought gifts. With the current economic crisis, there's even a better reason to go handmade or homemade this Christmas. You can really make a wonderful, inexpensive present for someone without having to spend hours slaving over a hot stove.

This year I have made some yummy Irish CreamThe recipe below makes just over 1 liter of Irish Cream and it keeps for about a month in the fridge (if you're lucky) . It cost me just under 5 euros (including the vintage bottle) as opposed to 13 euros in the shops!

This is what you'll need:

* 250 ml of whiskey but I didn't have any, so used brandy instead. You could use rum or even vodka.
* 1 can condensed milk
* 2 whole eggs (or use egg substitute)
* 400 ml double cream
* 2 tablespoons of instant coffee powder (I used 3 of chicory coffee powder)
* 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup (Again I left it out, and it still tasted scrumptious)
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon almond essence (be very careful here, 'cause I have been known to add too much, and it spoils the taste...)

How to make it:

1) Blend all the ingredients together (I used a hand blender)
2) Pour into sterilized bottles
3) Add a pretty ribbon, a printable holiday tag and voila!

To serve, dip the rim of cocktail glasses into a saucer of milk, then into a mixture of ground hazelnuts, cocoa powder and sugar. Serve with a few coffee beans on top for added coffee flavor.

  1. Que dica boa!!! Essa receita deve ficar deliciosa. E a garrafa ficou chique...

    1. Hi Yvette, I can't guarantee they are still okay to drink after a year, as it contains egg and cream. The alcohol and sugar should preserve it for a month or so, but any longer than you're taking a risk, in my opinion. Just to be on the safe side, I'd make another batch if I were you. It's cheaper than food poisoning ;)
