Candy Heart Shortbread Cookies Recipe

Candy Heart Shortbread Cookies Recipe - BirdsParty.com

There's nothing more loving in my view than a box of homemade, edible delights. I mean, taking the time to say "I Love You" or "You Matter" with a box of sugary things, makes for a pretty special gift, don't think?! :)

Our contributor Gillian from Crumbs of Comfort Cake Design thinks so too. Check out her recipe for the most pretty and scrumptious Valentine's Heart Cookies below.

Candy Heart Shortbread Cookies Recipe

* 200g butter
* 200g sugar
* 1 egg
* 400g plain flour
* 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or vanilla bean
* Red hard boiled sweets (smashed)

Materials You'll Need:

* 2 heart cookie cutters (one large & one small)
* Rolling pin
* Non-stick baking paper

Directions:

Beat butter and sugar until it lightens in colour. Add egg and vanilla and mix until completely incorporated.  Add sifted flour, this will come together. Roll cookie dough into a ball, wrap and refrigerate for an hour. Roll cookie dough out between two sheets of non-stick paper.  Using cookie cutter cut out large hearts and place on lined baking tray.  Then use the small cutter to cut heart shaped “window” in cookie.  Carefully place smashed sweets in window.

Bake at 160 oC (fan forced oven)  for 8-10 minutes.  Leave to cool on baking tray
Serve with Love x
