I'm no professional baker, so the thought of making a DIY wedding cake for my latest project for HGTV was a little daunting. But then I realized that with anything homemade, the beauty is in the "journey" as much as in the final product. So I went with a less is more approach. Basic pound cake, simply frosted with vanilla cream cheese frosting (thanks to all the masterclasses in Caking it Pretty !).
So mega excited to finally share my latest project for HGTV !!! My inspiration for parties and printables usually comes from my kids, and so naturally; I've always gravitate towards all-things-geared-for-little-ones. So it was mega refreshing to be tackling a subject that I don't often get to work on - Weddings !! ♥

A party blogger's life dances to the tune of seasons and holidays. Much like a fashion designer, we have to channel the latest trends in the party-o-sphere and be seasons ahead for any blog content, designs and styled parties. Christmas is done in May and Summer in December. Yes, crazy but that's how we roll! ;)

Summer Party Ideas | Strawberry Desserts Table
I styled this mini desserts table for the July/August edition of the French national magazine, Créative . And when choosing a theme, strawberries just seemed the perfect match for a seasonal and super sweet table! Needless to say, I LOVED styling it - not only did I get to design and shoot a brand new printable party theme in another language, but I also got to play with fondant. A lot! And fondant is kinda like modelling clay for grown ups ;) Another fun aspect is that I had baked all the desserts myself (yes, that is fun for me..), from the cookies to the marshmallow pops, the strawberry cookies, cake and cupcakes !! (scroll down to see the recipe links).
Easy Strawberry Birthday Cake Recipe
I made this cake for the Strawberry themed mini desserts table, which I'll be sharing tomorrow. The cake really is so simple to decorate and I've already showed how I made the fondant strawberries here . So all that's left to do is the fondant pearl border and the ribbon bunting.

How To Make a DIY Watercolor Cake
Nearly a decade ago, I (Tess) enrolled in a watercolor class during summer school at my university. I've always considered myself to be a fairly crafty and artistic person, but let me tell you - watercolor painting is HARD! Making simple designs and blending colors was fun and sort of relaxing, but the detail and artistry that my instructor and some of my fellow classmates used was phenomenal. Needless to say, I knew I was not going to improve all that much in just a short amount of time. However, I definitely left inspired and with a tremendous amount of respect for those that could create beautiful imagery with only a few tools.
Today we're hosting our July link party and again teamed up with the fabulous Celebrations at Home and The Celebration Shoppe - So that means when you link up an idea on this blog, it shows up on theirs too, and of course you have more chances to be featured! Woo-Hoo!! :)
