How to Start Your Own Party Blog - in 3 Easy Steps

So you love parties, and love reading about parties, cake design, DIY, crafts and event styling, right?

Ever said to yourself " I can totally do that " or ever heard from other people " You should totally start a blog! " ?

Well, here's the secret. There is no secret to starting a blog. And YOU totally can do it too!

I started my own party ideas blog back in 2010, and it snow-balled into a thriving international party printables and supplies business, a print and online party ideas magazine and my very own book!

Starting a party ideas blog from scratch is much easier when you have a guiding hand ;)

So put things on hold for 15 minutes, and let's get started!

3-Steps to Create your Party Blog:

2. Choosing Blogger or Wordpress
3. Get the party started!

1) Party Blog Domain Name and Hosting

This is  fun a step. Trust!

My party blog name evolved as the blog topics and posts evolved. But I can't stress out how important it is to secure your domain name.

Brainstorm, and once you have the perfect name; use the box below to see if it's available.

Once you have your domain name secured, you’ll also need to host your domain name. Hosting is like renting space on the web to display your blog.

Bluehost has great rates and gives you your party blog domain name for free if you decide to host a Wordpress blog with them.

I’d suggest the Starter Plan to begin with. I mean, $3.95 per month = 0.12 cents per day !!

And us party bloggers love a bargain, right?! ;)

2) Choosing Blogger or Wordpress for your Party Blog

I started with Blogger, since I already had Gmail. It was the natural choice for me.

Apparently, we could go on all day about the pros and cons of each platform, but ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

Login to Bluehost and scroll down to the Software/Services section of the first page. Click on WordPress logo.

The systems will guide you to either install a brand new version of Wordpress or import an existing one if you already have it installed. Easy, peasy!

If you choose to to create a Blogger blog, the domain URL for your blogger party blog will have a blogspot extension like:

But we want to use our registered domain name from step 1, right?

Once signed into Blogger, go to Settings

Click on Basic. Scroll down to the Publishing section, and change your re-direct settings to point to your shiny new domain URL hosted with Bluehost.

See mine? It re-directs my original old blogger URL ( ) to my chosen, hand picked blog domain with my own site's extension ( )

3) Get The Party Started!

Now you should have your own party blog set up - Woo-hoo!! Congrats!! :)
Welcome to the blogosphere, my friend!

All that's left to do is create content and keep your readers engaged. But that's a whole other post! ;)

For ideas on where you can get started, hop over to our Party Ideas, Party Crafts, Party Recipes pages.

The key is to create, create, create.

Even when your imagination seems like it can't re-invent the wheel...or your creative well is running dry...or you think that "everything's already been done"...or it's all on Pinterest anyways...

Don't despair. We all get in a creative funk sometimes. But guess what?

The very process of creating is what sparks the imagination in the first place, and helps keeps those creative juices flowing.

And no. The well never really runs dry - tried and tested!  ;)

So grab your glue gun, spatula or party popper, and let's get this party started!

4) Working with Brands & Finding Blog Sponsors

Once you've established your blog, you'll want to monetize your content and find sponsors that help you generate an income from your awesomeness. If nothing else, it will help you pay for all your blogging costs ;)

This is subject that really deserves a whole new e-class page...but for now:

1) Bird's Party offers an affiliate program for US or EU blogs and sites - Email us to find out how you can make money from your blog!

2) Join ShareaSale affiliate ads - you simply pick your chosen brand like Craftsy, Target and many more, and implement their ad code on your blog. You can use links within a  blog post or an ad on the blog's sidebar.

If you'd like more info about this option, let me know and we'll get a working on a  new e-class for ya ;)

5) Social Media

Social media is a huge subject, and one that I'd love to go more into in a separate e-class. Starting with one of my biggest traffic referrers, Pinterest.

For the time being, my biggest tips regarding making the most of your time when it comes to social media, is to schedule posts. Especially on Pinterest. For me, it has been the deciding factor in helping me grow my following from zero to nearly 50k in just a couple of years!

One of my fav ways to schedule pins and social media posts is via Viraltag. It's a super easy to use platform, and gives you great statistical insights as you can connect to Google Analytics, but above all, it gives you the flexibility to to schedule your Pinterest pins or any social content to your other social media platforms, including Instagram.

You can upload photos from pretty much anywhere, use browser plugins to pin straight from sites and even create graphics withing the platform using Canva!
