Much like pineapples, Flamingos have been trending on the party scene for a couple of years now. And I for one, have been totally itching to style a pink flamingo party FOR EVER! Well, last weekend, we got to do just that. I say “we”, because my little girl and I got to plan it together! :)
If you follow my snaps (username BirdsParty) you'll have seen all the party prep and sneak peeks of the party itself!
The weather has been glorious these last few days, so we and the perfect (excuse) opportunity to host a pool party to celebrate summer with her little girlfriends on the weekend. But flamingo style of course! I love the combination of pink and aqua blue, and this party theme couldn't be more perfect for the occasion!
Here are some party ideas to help you style your own "flamingle" summer celebrations with ease!
Flamingo Pool Party Printables & Styling
Of course, I designed matching flamingo party printables that you can now download and print, to help you style your own birthdays, baby showers, or even summer weddings if you so fancy!
The decor was kept to a minimum. It's hot, so ain't nobody got time for fancy pants decorations here! So we used pink and blue balloons and plastic flamingos to decorate the pool area and the desserts table alike. They double duty as party props too, which is always a bonus in my party book! ;)
For the flamingo printable invitations, I wanted to evoke the whole summer / pool party aspect without being too obvious, and chose a blue watercolor design for the backdrop to contrast with the cute pink flamingos on the front of the invites. The only other pattern I decide to use was blue stripes, for a clean and contemporary feel. I love this color combination as I said, but if you'd like a different one, just email me and we can totally accommodate! ;)
I love how the use of party printables really helped to pull this flamingo theme together without going OTT or having to do a tons of flamingo shaped treats. It has to be said, it was one of the quickest and easiest parties I've ever pulled off!
Flamingo Pool Party Desserts Table Food & Drinks
Because this was a pool party, a lot of the time we spent outdoors. But after the girl finished their swim and dance in the garden, we got dressed and moved indoors for the treats! I could have set up the desserts buffet outside, but wind, sun and bugs do not mix with sugary treats. Funny that...
Anyways, so I used my trusty potting bench to display some homemade and some store-bought pimped sweets for the party.
The food & drinks served :
* a semi-homemade pink vanilla cake with a blue chocolate ganache drip frosting (tutorial coming soon to the blog!), which we still have a ton of in the fridge (note to self: make a smaller cake next time...). I decorated the cake simply with pink candy and with printable flamingo toppers from the kit
* pink flamingo fairy cakes - store-bought iced cakes that we decorated with printable flamingo head cupcake toppers
* blue marshmallows (shop-bought)
* pink lemonade and strawberry and banana smoothies
The party was after lunch, so we only served desserts. But other cool snacks and food ideas for a flamingo pool party would be to serve sandwiches cut into flamingo shapes or ham and tortilla wraps sandwiches (pink, duh!), as well as fresh pink berries fruit salad and pink ice cream.
Flamingo Pool Party Activities & Favors
Once the girls had their treats, we sat down in the patio to make some cute DIY flamingo headbands and cute pink diamante bracelets. We used especially made templates from Bird's Party kit for the headbands. It helped that they doubled as photo booth props and party favors for the girls to take home!
Apart for the cute flamingo headbands, my daughter insisted on all guests having pink sunglasses, which they all got given when they arrived. Other little treats included the DIY bracelets they made, some neon pink nail polish and a cute mini gumball machine filled with pink candy. All the goodie were packaged prettily into mini pink and blue favor totes, adorned with a flamingo printable gift tag – easy!
Flamingo Pool Party DIY Photo Booth
One constant feature in all my parties now, seems to be a photo booth. It really helps to bring the party to life in terms of mingling with guests, letting loose and capturing fun memories at the same time. You really can't beat it for the perfect party activity!
The girls got to use their DIY flamingo headbands, bracelets and sunglasses for the photo booth, which made for highly amusing photos! :)
