DIY Unicorn Party Headbands

DIY Unicorn Party Headbands - learn to craft these easy accessories for birthday celebrations, Halloween costume or a party photo booth prop! by BirdsParty.com @birdsparty

As you probably saw all this week, we're sharing unicorn party ideas, crafts and recipes to inspire your own creative celebrations!

And no unicorn birthday party is complete without unicorn headbands, right?! So my daughter and I crafted some cute party favors headbands that also double as pretty unicorn photo booth props! 😊

These unicorn headbands are super easy to make and you only need a few inexpensive craft bits.

We had lots of fun making these unicorn headbands for the girls to wear during the slumber party! Plus, they make great party favor and accessories for those photos as you can see.

I even made a template that you can download below, so the whole project is even easier!

Making the unicorn horn

1) Print and cut your template cone and circle, then transfer to the white felt and cut. This will be the unicorn horn.

2) Use a little hot glue to form a cone shape, starting to roll the top of the cone to start forming the unicorn horn.

3) Continue to roll and glue until you reach the end of the cone.

4) Close the cone with a little more hot glue.

5) Fill the cone with fiberfill. I used a stick to help push as much fiberfill inside as possible. The amount of fiberfill will vary, but you want the unicorn horn to stand up straight and have a nice form without looking lumpy.

6) Hot glue the felt circle to the base of the cone to close the unicorn horn.

Assembling the unicorn headband

1) Glue the end of the gold sequined ribbon on top on the unicorn horn, then begin wrapping the ribbon tightly around the white felt cone to create the ridges of the unicorn horn.

2) When you reach the base of the cone, hot glue the end of the ribbon in place.

3) Hot glue the unicorn horn to the center of your headband. Hold it while it dries for a few seconds.

4) Hot glue your faux flowers to the center of the headband, on the base of the horn, hiding the hot glue of the ribbon if needed.

5) Cut the outer ear from your template onto white felt. Cut the inner ear parts from pink felt. Slit the ends of the outer ear and glue together, then glue the pink inner ear to the white ear part.

6) Hot glue the ear to the headband on either side of the flowers.

  4. Well, I personally am completely craft-challenged (personal hashtag: idkhowtodiy), but my sister-in-law--mom to our unicorn-loving niece--is very craft-gifted. So I hopped over from #ThisIsHowWeRoll to check this out. Now, I'm passing it on to her. And I will resume my regularly-scheduled craft avoidance. ;)

  8. Hi! I am making these for my daughter's birthday this weekend and am having trouble with the ears staying upright. What is the purpose of slitting the larger ear? How is it attached to the headband? I can't tell from the pictures.

    1. The slits help the ears stay in place. You slit, then glue the slits on each other to make a little "lip". You then glue the lip to the underside of the headband. perhaps this video might help: http://www.blog.birdsparty.com/2016/10/diy-animal-ears-headbands-halloween-costume-last-minute.html let me know? :)

  10. HI, you simply right click the image, select "save image as"and save it to your computer. Then print as you would any image. Or click on the image (it will appear large on your screen), then click the "print" button on your web browser. Hope that helps! :)
