Just a simple tutorial on making some really cute and versatile flowers using fabric scraps!
I first saw a similar version on my good friend Claudia's blog Feito a Mao, but have modded them so that there's NO sewing involved!! Yippee!
The one below I made into a brooch, so it can be placed wherever my mood or outfit takes me! Soooo cute as embellishment on bags, hair accessories, shoes, etc.

Do you sense that I'm longing for Spring at all?? :)
Pin along the bottom, shown as a green line.
Snip at regular intervals at the top as shown by the picture.
Roll-up the piece on itself, securing in place with a dot of fabric glue or hot glue as you go along (take pins off as you roll..)
Do the same for each layer, surrounding the previous roll and secure with glue at the end.
You can mix and match fabrics and colours for an interesting contrast.
Do a double, triple flower or simply attach a button or sparkly bead to the center for a bit of bling :)
For brooches, glue a safety pin to a small circle of fabric or felt and then glue to the back of the flower!
If you do any of the tutorials you find on this blog, please send me a photo! I'd love to showcase your handmade goodies too! :)
Don't miss it - More flower-inspired posts coming your way all this week...I'm feeling all spring-y!! :)

ReplyDeleteI am having sign-ups for a doll giveaway until June 23rd if you would like to sign up.
I love this flower! I know it is from last year, but it's still cute now too! Am I the only one who got stuck on that last step?? It seems like I just have rectangles of rolled fabric- I can see where it should go but can't quite figure this out! Sorry, I'm not a real "crafter"...any help would be great!
ReplyDeleteHi Colleen. Once you have the "snipped' rectangles, you can roll them around each other to contrast the colors. Lay all the snipped rectangles flat on top of each other and roll! :)
ReplyDeleteSecure with a little stitch or even hot glue if feeling a little pushed for time. Then just cover the round base with a piece of circular felt and attached a safety pin to the back for a brooch, or stitch in place where you want! Hope this helps a bit?
XOXO
Ok! So there should be multiple layers to this- why did I miss that somehow? haha! I am just using the same printed fabric- so just layer that? How many times? I'm officially flower challenged right now...sorry :(
ReplyDeleteColleen, there's no right or wrong here, just do what feels and looks best to you. The more layers, the fuller the flower.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see your photos! :)
XOXO
Ok... I just made one it turned out soooo cute, but now Im trying to figure out how to make "the base" more narrow so I can still have it full and make matching bows to go with the shoes? Any specific dimensions? I would love a tip or two!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kristie. How do you make the base more narrow so it doesn't stand up so high. Is there a special way I need to wrap it?
DeleteI haven's found a special way yet, I tried but cutting the base off dismantles the flower...if you find a way, pls let me know?
DeleteVery cute projects! Browsing your site via Someday Crafts.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric flower is really gorgeous, and you can put them in almost anything you want them to be, from hats to bags, it's totally great. I'm loving it.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You make it so easy!! Am going to try this out right now!
