An Incredible, Lorax Inspired Birthday Party

Tuesday, November 27, 2012C Riches

This SUPER fun, colorful and whimsical Lorax Inspired Birthday Party was styled by our incredibly talented contributor, Smita from The Party Wall.

I love working with Smita to come up with printable designs, as she really thinks 'outside the box' in any party she styles, and this one has so many incredible details!! Especially when you realize they were mostly handmade by Smita herself, despite her being a full time lawyer!  :)

Check out the stunning details she created for her little Sohan's 5th birthday party...

Party Inspiration and Printables Design:

Inspired by the whimsical world and vibrant colors of The Lorax book, by Dr. Seuss, this birthday party is perfect for boys and girls of all ages!

And without wanting to sound patronizing, with the underlying theme of recycling and being kind to the planet, is also a fun way to help educate our little ones! :)

The Lorax Inspired printable designs include all the party templates (some of which are personalized) you'd need to style this party with ease: From cupcake toppers designed to emulate the tops of Truffula Trees, to invitation, recycling signs, party favor tags, buffet cards, printable mustache party props, bottle wrappers, cupcake wrappers, editable signs and much more!

I was totally inspired by Smita's invite ideas and the rhyme in the original story book, that I decided to create a little rhyme for the printable invitations (photo above) - What do you think? :)

I also included printable yellow mustaches, so Smita embellished the favor bags and popcorn boxes with them and added pompoms for nose and googly eyes - So adorable!! :)

Party Styling and Decor:

When using such a large color palette (which this theme demands), be sure to add plenty of neutral or white elements to ground the look. Avoid using too many different patterns, ruffles, or busy motifs; rather, use straight lines, clean edges and stick to only one or two motifs that you repeat throughout your design. Here, the Truffula tree backdrop and orange polka dots are repeated throughout the design to pull the look together.

Party Food and Desserts Table:

The enchanting desserts table is set to a backdrop of blue sky, green hills and bright truffula trees.  The dessert table features a two-tier cake and lemon-coconut cupcakes adorned with custom toppers from MJ Taboush, custom sugar-cookies from Hummingbird Baker, orange and lemon French macarons, homemade marshmallows, homemade cake-pops inspired by Bakerella, and homemade chocolate mustache lollipops. Alternatively, skip the sweets; opt for healthier snacks and serve up lots of “truffula fruit”.

Party Activities and Favors:

Eco-Tip: Stay true to the party theme and try to make your party as earth-friendly as possible! Set up a recycling station and teach your young party guests about recycling. Make crafts out of recycled items. Set up a tree planting station.

For games, have the guests save  the Humming Fish from the gluppity glupp, feed the poor Bar-Ba-Loots,
and sing and dance like Swo-mee Swans.

Recycle your used paper products after the party. And don’t forget to reuse and re-purpose as many of  your existing party props as you can!
