Traditional Irish Coffee Recipe

Traditional Irish Coffee Recipe - BirdsParty.com

March's arrived and St Patrick's day is only a couple of weeks away, so we've got our leprechaun party hats on 'round here!

And for me, it's the ideal (excuse) occasion to treat myself to a yummy Irish Coffee. Whether for a party or just because, as it's the perfectly warming cocktail for this time of year too, and super simple to make.

My husband is the one that taught me how to make it, and I have to say, the hardest part is pouring the cream in, without turning your beautiful drink into a creamy latte!

You see, the beauty of this bevvy is all in the presentation, where the coffee is drunk through the cream, so you need the separate layers to make it a true Irish Coffee.

It needs to look like a pint of Guinness, basically.

Oh, and this is an original recipe from the emerald isles. So don't be tempted to use whipped cream from a can! ;p

Homemade Traditional Irish Coffee Recipe

* 1 tsp sugar (or more to taste)
* 1 measure whisky
* 1 small carton of double cream
Party straws (optional but so much cuter!)

How to mix your cocktail:

Fill a glass with sugar and add the hot coffee. Stir until the sugar is dissolves.

Add the whisky and stir.

With the bottom of an upturned teaspoon just touching the top of the coffee AND the side of the glass, pour the cream very, very slowly onto the back of the spoon and into the glass.

The richer the cream, the easier it will be to stop the cream mixing into the coffee.

The sugar also helps keep the coffee and cream separate too.

Enjoy at once! Perfect accompaniment to some yummy macarons.
