Happy New Year, party friends!
We're kicking off 2018 here on the blog with a crafty post. There's no better way, #amiright?!
And this DIY craft is quite a special one, as it was entirely made by my mini me, who is turning out to be quite the mini-crafter! (I think I have a future blogger on my hands haha) 😍
You may have seen from this post I shared a few weeks ago, that my little girl's love for polymer clay crafts has also inspired me to create with this material.
Well, today we're sharing a first of many (I hope...) Kids' Crafts that we'll be regularly producing to show you here on the blog - made by kids, for kids! 😉
I had this idea when I saw her create these super adorable macaron photo-holders! They looked so cute that I asked her to make a few for me to use as table place-card holders.
She was super delighted, and I thought it would be such a fun project to share here with other moms and kiddos too!
This DIY project is very child-friendly as it basically involves modelling with polymer clay. The only adult supervision required is of course, when you need to bake the pieces and handling the super glue and wire cutters.
So it would be such a fun activity to make with kids before or during a party, or a super darling handmade hostess gift, don't you think?!
You can of course, vary the colors of the clay you use to make various "flavors" of macarons to suit your decor or party theme.
Check out the DIY details below (as photographed by her, bless!) 😊
DIY Polymer Clay Macaron Place-Card Holders
Materials:
* pink, white, fuchsia and lilac polymer clay blocs
* wire - use thicker wire to make it hold heavier card or photos
* pencil
* push-pin
* super glue
* wire-cutters
* baking sheet covered with parchment paper
Directions:
1) Make a ball of about 1 inch from white clay, and flatten it slightly. This is the "filling" of the macaron. Make 2 more balls of the same color (the macaron "shells"), and flatten on one side, leaving one of the sides slightly domed to resemble the macaron top.
2) Sandwich the parts together, with the white clay in the middle to make your macaron. Press slightly the top and bottom "shells" to make the "filling" come out and look a little more realistic.
3) Using a push-pin or similar, make little holes on the edges of the macarons to resemble the real thing. In reality, these little holes are called the "foot" of the macaron.
4) Adult help required: Measure how long you want your wire and let an adult cut it using wire-cutters.
Using a pencil, roll one side of the wire around the pencil to make the loops that will hold your cards or photos in place. Insert into the top of the macaron, all the way down, but be careful not to pierce thorough to the other side!
Place all the finished macarons onto your baking sheet and bake at 150 deg Celsius or 300 deg. Farenheit for 30 minutes. Let the pieces thoroughly cool down on the tray for about 1 hour or longer.
CRAFTY TIP (adult supervision required): After pieces are cool, remove the wire and add a little super glue to the tip, push it back into the macarons and let dry before using.
