DIY No-Sew Velvet Pumpkins

I've been obsessed with velvet pumpkins since I first saw them on Pinterest last year. But they can be quite expensive to buy online...so for my Thanksgiving tablescape this year, I went on a mission to make my own!

There are several ways to make these gorgeous velvet pumpkins, but being the speedy crafter that I am, I embarked on a NO-SEW project to make my velvet pumpkins, and at a fraction of the retail price! 😍

DIY No-Sew Velvet Pumpkins

I did first try sewing them by hand, but got quickly frustrated and impatient at the amount of time it was taking...plus, I'd needed to somehow find real pumpkin stems to make them look realistic. And that was no easy task.

So I had a light-bulb moment after trying to make them with a couple of paper maché pumpkins I had at home.

I used these paper maché pumpkins a couple of years ago for another project, and they worked beautifully in my no-sew velvet pumpkin project!

So basically, for this project all you need are hollow pumpkins (bonus if you can find find ones that come already with a lid like my large one) and velvet in your choice of colors.

You can use paper maché pumpkins, plastic or polystyrene pumpkins, as long as they are hollow. Or, as long as you can hollow them out.

Oh, and I decided to bling out my pumpkins a bit by using gold paint and gold glitter for the stems. But you can of course, skip the glitter altogether and just use paint for your stems.

I chose jewel toned colors for my velvet fabric in orange, petroleum blue and mustard yellow/gold. But once again, it's totally up to you what color of velvet you choose for this project.

Or, you could even use scraps of fabric you may already have at home like fleece or wool!

Those rich colors I chose looked beautiful together and they were the inspiration for my entire Thanksgiving table this year, which you can see here!

I think next year I may try to make them in different colors, like burgundy and pink too! How fab would that look?!

These velvet pumpkins are so quick to make too, you'll be hooked. I promise!

They look so perfect as a table centerpiece of course, but you can also display them around the home or use them to decorate a mantel for Fall or Thanksgiving!
