This year, Halloween is a little more demure at ours. So, I opted for creating a few decorations that would reflect a "calmer" and more cozy vibe with neutral colors and a more paired-down style.
To be honest, I much rather prefer this black and white, clean, modern monochrome vibe than anything too loud anyways!
Not to mention that, (apart from the spider webs) this décor can be re-purposed for the November and Fall months too!
Halloween Mantel DIY Modern Decor
Of course, the colors I used suit my mood this year. But that doesn't mean that I (or you), can't change the colors to suit my mood next year. And that's the beauty of these easy crafts projects!
All these projects can be done to match your own décor style and taste. The craft techniques and ideas remain the same.
All these projects are so easy to make and very budget friendly too!
Plus, you could get the kids and the whole family involved in making or creating them, which could be turned into a fun Halloween craft night!
You could also invite your (masked) besties for a "ghouls night in" soirée of crafts! Just add some Halloween brews and cocktails on the side, and voila! 🍸👻
DIY Pipe Cleaners Spider Webs
These spider webs were a total happy accident! But once I got the technique down to perfection (in my opinion), I decided to make them in a couple of different sizes to add to my mantel's back wall and on the front of the fireplace.
They are so fun and easy to make, and once you see how, you'll want to make them in all sorts of sizes!
This is also a super budget friendly craft and makes a big décor impact for not at lot of effort. My 13 year old daughters said they were "vey cool and stylish", so it must be true! 🤷♀️
But you could make these spider webs even larger to decorate your front porch, yard or to hang them from the ceiling!
To finish them off, I just added a paper spider to the end and voila!
DIY Skull Vase
The inspiration for this vase came when I saw these paper maché skulls at my local craft store.
I've been wanting to make a skull vase for years, but never got a chance, until this year!
I think this vase would also look super chic and funky as modern home décor all year 'round! For instance, they would not look out of place displayed on a coffee table, shelf or vanity too.
DIY Painted Pumpkins
Well, this is not really a huge DIY project, but it's one of the most therapeutic of the lot!
Plus, who has the patience (or skill) to carve pumpkins these days?! Sign me up for painted pumpkins any day! 😉
To accompany my DIY decor, I added some candle holders, including my DIY marbled candle holders, and grey taper candles to complete the look of my modern Halloween mantel.
Again, feel free to choose any paint color that most matches your home décor or taste. I used mat acrylic black and white paints to create an array of shades, which is also super inexpensive!
You could choose neutral terracotta colors for a midcentury modern vibe, or even neon colors for a funkier look!
All supplies used are from French craft store Cultura.fr
