Re-purposing Christmas Decor the DIY Way
Happy New Year, party friends! 😍
We're kicking off 2019 the DIY way. Is there anything better? I think not!
Today I'll be sharing some fun ideas to help you recycle, re-use and re-purpose those Christmas decorations that may already be looking a tad sad sitting in a box in your garage...
Re-purposing Christmas Decor the DIY Way
Christmas decor is great. I'm all up for the handmade, creative, DIY objects that add a special touch of uniqueness and fun to our home decor during the holiday season.
But once Christmas is packed-up, we put all those lovingly crafted pieces away, and they don't see the light of day for another whole year. It's such a shame, don't you think?
Wouldn't it be great to re-use or re-purpose some of those pretty objects into functional and ornamental decor all year 'round?
This is exactly what I was asked to do this year by a French arts and crafts brand!
The idea was to create new and fun purposes for much-loved Christmas decor objects, and turn Christmas baubles, wreaths, Advent Calendars and more, into everyday life objects.
DIY Mini Flower Vases from Christmas Baubles
For my first project, I create these mini flower vases from glass ornaments.
It was such a fun, super quick DIY project, not to mention mega simple, that anyone can do!
I was so happy how the mini vases turned out, they look so chic upon a dinner party table or simply decorating the home. What do you think? 😍
Materials:
* Transparent glass Christmas baubles
* Hot glue gun
Instructions:
1) Remove the cap and the metal wire from the Christmas bauble. Discard the wire (or save for another purpose).
2) Open the tabs of the cap a little bit with your fingers to stabilize it as much as possible.
3) Glue the flat part of the caps onto the bottom of each bauble. Press for a few seconds so that the glue dries well.
4) Fill the mini vases with water and pretty flowers to decorate the house or your festive table! Told you it was easy! 😉
DIY Statement Jewelry from Christmas Ornaments
For the second project was a fun jewelry set made from mini Christmas balls and jingle bells ornaments.
I used the jingle bells to make a super eye-catching statement necklace, and the mini balls made great earrings!
Materials:
* At least 30 silver jingle-bells of different sizes
* 2 mm silver chain necklace
* Jewelry pliers
* Mini Christmas balls
* Earrings "hook" piece
* Jewelry rings
Instructions:
1) For the necklace, remove the larger rings of the chain to facilitate adding the jingle-bells. Put these pieces aside to re-assemble the chain at the end.
2) Thread first the smaller bells followed by the larger ones, ending with smaller ones to have a symmetrical collar. Close the rings of the chain.
3) For the earrings, open the rings with jewelry pliers, then slip on the earring "hook" and a mini Christmas ball inside it. Close the ring to secure everything. Voila! 😃
These are just some of the ideas to help spark your imagination!
There are so many more fun project you could create, for instance:
* you could re-purpose an Advent Calendar box into a jewelry box
* add a mirror to the back of a wreath to make it a decorative object around the home
* use stocking material to make oven-mittens
* use tinsel to make tassel statement earrings
* re-use Christmas cards and paper as framed art around the home
* wrap tinsel around a giant paper lantern to make a party or home decor lampshade and so on!
