Lemon Shaped Mousse Recipe - lemon & white chocolate mousse shaped in a gorgeous lemon shell, perfect and delicious for a summer party! by BirdsParty.com @birdsparty #lemonmousse #lemon #dessert #recipe #lemonparty #citruspartyideas #summerdessert #nobakedessert #lemonshapedmousse

If you follow the blog, you probably have noticed the lemon themed posts lately, hence today's lemon shaped mousse.

I made this mousse a few weeks ago in view of shooting it for the lemon party I shared last week. But this is one of those desserts that deserves its own post!

This lemon and white chocolate mousse is so delicious, light and refreshing, not to mention super pretty due to its charming lemon shape. Therefore, I'm naming it "best dessert of the summer"! 😊

Lemon Shaped Mousse Recipe

The lemon shape of this mousse is simply achieved by using a silicone mold.

The dessert itself is my own take inspired by a French chef called Cédric Grolet, who I believe, was the first to make this lemon-shaped dessert famous.

It's also a super easy summer dessert to make, and you only need a handful of ingredients, which you probably already have at home.

For its vibrant color I used a food coloring spray, which was so easy and mega fun to work with!

You can purchase both the lemon mold and the spray online at Amazon for instance, so it's totally a do-able recipe.

For this lemon and white chocolate mousse, I used a lemon curd insert for a tangy and sweet surprise when you cut open the lemon.

For the lemon curd I had some at some leftover from the lemon layer cake I shared a few weeks ago, but you could totally used store-bought lemon curd too.

Needless to say, I think this is a gorgeous dessert for any summer dinner party or lemon-themed soiree, and if you make nothing else this season, I urge you to make this fun lemony dessert!

Check out my easy recipe and quick video below to show you how to make your lemon-shaped mousse!

instructions:

How to cook Lemon Shaped Mousse

For The Mousse
  1. Freeze little spheres of lemon curd in round mold for about 20-30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, soak gelatin in cold water.
  3. Chop the chocolate into small chunks.
  4. Add half the cream to a pan and bring to a boil.
  5. Add gelatin leaf to the chocolate bowl.
  6. Add hot cream to the chocolate slowly, stirring between each addition to melt the contents.
  7. Top with remaining cold cream and lemon juice.
  8. Add cling film and place in fridge to set for min. 12 hours.
  9. Add the lemon mousse to a mixer fitted with whisk attachment and beat to creat a light mousse.
  10. Add the mousse to a piping bag fitted with round large tip.
  11. Fill the lemon molds nearly to the top.
  12. Unmold and then press a lemon curd insert into each lemon mold.
  13. Add more mousse on top to cover the inserts, and smooth tops with spatula.
  14. Place in freezer overnight.
  15. Unmold lemons onto a wire rack over a protective surface.
  16. Spray lemons with yellow food coloring spray, then a second coat if necessary.
  17. Add lemon leaves for decor.
For the Lemon Curd
  1. Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until well blended.
  2. Dip the bowl in a saucepan filled with water (without the bowl touching the water) and add the butter, zest and juice.
  3. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium-high heat (about five minutes).
  4. As soon as bubbles appear, remove from the heat, stirring again. Let cool.
  5. Transfer to sterilized jars and close. Cool in the fridge at least 1 day before filling the lemons.

    1. Hi Nene, to be honest, I have no idea what gelatin leaves are in comparison with powder, so I can't give you any indication. But you can buy leaves in any supermarket or even online on Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gelatin+leaves&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

    1. Hi Claudia, each cavity is the size of an average lemon if that helps? You can get these molds on Amazon in the US: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lemon+mold+silicone&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

  8. Ok, I have followed your recipe to a T. I can not get it to set. I used 1 1/2 sheets of gelatin and it is not setting. Can I use 2 sheets instead. I am using gold gelatin sheets. The white chocolate mousse is delicious and so is the lemon curd. I have to make 20 of these so I may use a store bought lemon curd. Trying to save sometime because I have 20 people coming for my granddaughter bridal shower and I still have to bake a cake and fix food.
Someone please just shoot me. What was I thing. HA HA.
    Thank you,
    Claudia

    1. Hi Claudia, maybe your gelatin sheets are a bit smaller in weight? The mixture is not supposed to set firm. It's a chocolate ganache (thick custard consistency), that's all. When you get it out of the fridge, you whip is a little if it's to hard, then add tot he molds, which will then go in the freezer to set so don't worry too much. But if you want, you can add another sheets of gelatin to see if that helps? Adding more chocolate could also do the trick, since chocolate will harden quite a bit in the fridge, even without any gelatin ;)
