Gnomes have been popular for a couple of year now, and they are still hanging around Pinterest for Valentine's Day, so I decided to modify the original DIY Christmas gnome templates I shared here on the blog a while back, in order to turn them into favor or gift boxes for Valentine's Day!
I must say, these gnomes are one of my most favorite DIY projects to date, and I didn't think they could get any cuter...until I turned them into gift boxes and stuffed them with heart-shaped chocolates! 😁 Anything is infinitely cuter filled to the brim with chocolates, right?!
Anyhow, they technique is basically the same, apart from a few easy additional steps, so I also changed the FREE template that you can now have the option to turn the gnome into favor boxes if you wish.
Of course, this being a Valentine's Day themed post I used red and pink for the felt colors, but you could totally use the same template and keep the Christmas colors too for the holidays, or any other occasion! In fact, I'm' already planning a Halloween edition, so watch this space! 👍
This DIY idea makes for a great classroom craft project, party activity or simply to make to decorate a tiered tray, party scene or use the gnome as cute DIY party favors or to give to a loved on on Valentine's Day!
PLEASE NOTE: Since we're using hot glue and sharp scissors, this project is only suited to older kids and must have adult supervision!
This project is also very inexpensive and you probably already have all the materials on hand like felt and paper cups. Apart from that, you'll need some faux fur and embellishments to decorate your gnomes.
I used little heart-shaped beads to decorate the hats of my gnomes, but you could use buttons, beads, flowers, sequins...or you could also embroider the felt before gluing it on. The possibilities for the décor are endless!
Because these gnomes were meant to be gift boxes or party favors, I designed little Valentine's Day gnome themed gift tags to match the gnomes, which are perfect to tie to the end of the gnome's hat to finish off your gift in style! 🥰
