Salted Caramel Popcorn Recipe
With Valentine's Day and the Super Bowl around the corner, I thought I'd share this delicious salted caramel popcorn recipe with you guys!
My daughter and I make it on a regular basis for our movie nights on the weekends, and it's the perfect snack for either occasion! In fact, I don't think there's any celebration where salted caramel popcorn wouldn't be welcome, am I right?! 🍿😉

Salted caramel popcorn also makes for a great party favor for any event (think baby showers, graduation, bridal showers, birthday parties...) or even for a yummy holiday gift, so you be sure to PIN and save this recipe 'cause you're bound to need it at some point!
Oh, and did I mention this is such a quick and easy recipe to make? Yep! Not to mention inexpensive too!
This salted caramel popcorn recipe comes together in a flash, which is always a bonus in my books! 😉You also have the option of popping your own corn the old-fashioned way like I do, or just use microwave popcorn. Or use store-bought salted popcorn to cut corners if you're pushed for time.
I have tried making salted caramel popcorn entirely in the microwave in the past, but it's NOT the same thing. Don't be fooled by getting a recipe online that tells you that it works. It doesn't! The most you can do in the microwave is your popcorn.
The caramel itself doesn't work as great, and you end up with a wet and sticky popcorn, versus a crispy and delicious salted caramel popcorn, which is what we're aiming for here.
The salted caramel made on the stovetop really is the best option (tried and tested) and you really do need to place the popcorn in the oven for about 5-10 minutes afterwards to dry up a little bit and allow the caramel to stick better to the popcorn.
I have a fan-assisted oven and it helps this process to go a little faster, so my popcorn only needs a bout 5 minutes in the oven after it's coated with the salted caramel.
You may find that you need a little longer, depending on your oven. But do keep an eye on your popcorn so the sugars in the caramel don't burn!
The longer you leave your popcorn in the oven, the harder and drier it will be. I find that 5 minutes in my oven make the very best popcorn. Any longer and it gets too crispy.
I also use honey in my caramel sauce instead of traditional syrup, because in France you can't really find syrup for sale like you can in the US. So perhaps if you use syrup, you may find that you need to leave the popcorn in the oven for a little longer.
Honey is also healthier than the syrup, so if you don't like using syrup, go for the honey. You get a slight hint of honey flavor on the popcorn, but it's not hugely noticeable under all the sugar notes 😁
This salted caramel popcorn keeps well for a few days in an air-tight container or plastic wrap, so it makes a great gift or party favor too!
For our Valentine's Day movie night in, I served them in cute popcorn boxes and added a pretty printable "My Heart Pops For You" Valentine's Day tag to the front for added cuteness 🥰 I designed them especially to go with popcorn party favors and treats!
