Barnyard Birthday | Pigs in Mud Chocolate Fudge Pots Recipe

Barnyard Birthday | Pigs in Mud Chocolate Fudge Pots Recipe - BirdsParty.com

Any dessert looks cuter in pots or jars, right? I can totally understand the fascination of potting sweet treats (including cupcakes...) - It's portable, super cute and is much easier to display!

So at my kid's barnyard birthday, instead of serving my homemade chocolate fudge in cups, I used dinky little jam jars, fitted with even cuter red gingham lids! :)

Pigs in Mud Chocolate Fudge Pots Recipe

I topped each chocolate fudge pot with chocolate shavings and chocolate pigs (supplied by my dearfriend Gillian) - hence the "Pigs in Mud" name! :)

These are a lighter version of the chocolate fudge, Brazilian Brigadeiro recipe (my favorite dessert of all time!), but thinned down with a  little double cream to achieve a pouring consistency - The kids (and adults) scoffed them straight away, but I guess they could also make great party favors!

Oh, and you can make them a good 4 days in advance!

Ingredients: For 4x 100g pots - Recipe is easily double, tripled...

* 400 g Can of Condensed Milk
* 200 ml Double Cream
* 2 Tablespoons of Cocoa Powder (the bitter stuff used for baking, not the stuff with sugar in!)
* 1 tablespoon of Butter
* Pinch of Salt
* Chocolate Shavings or Vermicelli
* Chocolate Pigs (optional)

Materials:

* Non-Stick Saucepan
* Mini Wooden Spoons
* Wooden Pig Buttons for Embellishment (optional)
* Raffia
* Scissors
* Hot Glue
* Double-Sided Tape

Directions:

1) Place all ingredients, except chocolate shavings and choc pigs, into a non-stick saucepan.

2) Stir over a low/medium heat with a wooden spoon until the mixture thickens and bubbles, coming off the bottom of the pan slightly. take pan off the heat and stir in the cream until combined.

3) Immediately pour the mixture into sterilized pots (I washed mine, rinsed and placed them on a tray in a  low oven until dry - that should be enough to sterilize them), and leave to set. When set, sprinkle the top of each pot with chocolate shavings and a choc. pig and fit with lid. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

All that is left to do is print your jar labels, stick them to the front of the jars with double-sided tape, and tie a piece of raffia around the rim of the jar. Finish the packaging by hot-gluing a wooden pig button to the front.
