Recipe | How To Make a Flamingo Drip Cake
If you're on Instagram you probably would have seen that drip cakes are taking over the cake world right now. Well, ever since I've set eyes on them, I've been itching to bake one!
So for our flamingo pool party (see photos here), I decided to get baking. It turns out, not only drip cakes are not that difficult to make and taste super yum, but they will totally steal the show on any desserts table! :)
For this flamingo cake, I went with pink frosting color on the cake and a blue drip ganache to contrast with the cute pink flamingo cake toppers from our Printable Kit (download yours here!).
To make things easier, I even did a video tutorial for ya. Yes, because I'm kind like that...AND because sometimes it's much more fun to watch ganache dripping over cake, am I right?! ;)
I've put the recipe written down below. Feel free to experiment with your own flavors of cake and buttercream frosting, and colors too.

This recipe is easy to make but involves three steps that require a few hours of chilling the cake in between. So best to start making it at least 2 days ahead of your party. The decorated cake keeps well in the fridge for a week.
Directions in the video below
EASY POUND CAKE RECIPE
* 1 box of pound cake mix
* 3 eggs
* 200 ml (7 fl oz) of cream
Follow instructions on your cake box mix to bake the cake. Leave cake in its cake pan to cool. Remove cake from cake pan and cool down the cake for a few hours in the fridge or for 30-40 in the freezer, before cutting.
PINK BUTTERCREAM RECIPE
* 300 g (11 oz) unsalted butter at room temperature
* approximately 600 g (21 oz) of sifted icing sugar (confectioner or powdered sugar)
* few drops of flavoring (to taste)
* red gel food coloring
Mix butter and sugar in a food processor until well combined.Add flavoring of choice. Add red food coloring a little at time to reach desired hue. Once the cake is cool, frost the cake and place it back in the fridge or freezer while your prepare the blue ganache.
BLUE GANACHE RECIPE
* 200 g (7 oz) white chocolate chips high cocoa butter content
* 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil for thinning if needed
* Blue food coloring gel
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave at 30 second intervals stirring in between, until fully melted. With a tooth pick add a little of the blue food coloring gel to test hue. Add more food coloring if desired. Cool the ganache slightly, so it won't melt your buttercream frosting. While the blue ganache is still runny but cooled down, pour it over the cake and gently encourage it to drip down the sides.
CAKE DECORATING
* Blue sugar sprinkles
* Pink chocolate candy
Add sugar sprinkles to the cake while the ganache is still wet. Just before serving, insert the cute flamingo cake toppers!
CAKE DECORATING TIP: If you're making several tiers for the cake, simply frost and decorate each tier separately. Then to stack them up, use cake support or dowel rods on each base cake to support the tier above (like in this tutorial here).
