How to Make an Elsa Doll Birthday Cake

How to Make a Frozen Princess Elsa Doll Cake - learn to make and decorate this easy cake for your child's Frozen birthday party! | BirdsParty.com

Today I'm sharing the steps how I made that Elsa doll call, from the Frozen inspired birthday party I shared last week.

These types of doll cakes are nothing new. In fact, I was totally obsessed with having one for my 10th birthday party (Barbie themed), so let's just say it was a while ago we first saw them 😋

But fast forward a few year, and my love of those cakes has not dwindled! So when I got the chance to style the Frozen party, I knew I had to tackle making a doll cake from scratch.

You see, the whole reason I started this blog was to let my love of parties and DIY, have a place to live. So when it comes to styling a party or hosting a celebration at home, the first thing I do is try to challenge myself or at the very least learn something new to share with you guys!

It doesn't mean I have to do it all, but if I can at least create a couple of handmade things that will help my party vision come to life, then I know anyone else can too!

Plus, I always think about the moms/dads who don't have an arsenal of minions at their disposal to make, bake and decorate. So the DIY route may be the only route they have? In any case, I'm no professional baker, and if this gal can, I hope you too feel inspired to have a go 😀

This Elsa doll cake is really easy to make, despite taking a while to decorate (you need to let the frosting set in between coats...). And it works well with any plastic doll. Just be sure you get the doll thoroughly clean (sterilized) before inserting into the cake, right?! 😉

How to Make an Elsa Doll Cake

Materials & Ingredients:

* 2 boxes of vanilla pound cake (I used a 360 g or 13 oz box from Trader Joe's)
* 2 pints or 1 liter of blue butter cream frosting (simply add some blue gel food coloring to vanilla butter cream, recipe here)
* a clean Elsa doll without garments
* round cookie cutter to fit roughly doll diameter
* over-proof, round bowl (mine was 7 inch or 18 cm in diameter at the widest part)
* round cake pan, same diameter as widest part of the bowl
* 200g or 7 oz white fondant
* icing sugar for dusting
* rolling pin
* a palette knife
* a turn table (optional, but very useful)
* snowflake cookie cutters
* hard, white candy balls for decor (like Sixlets)

Directions:

1) Bake one of the cakes into a round bowl. Bake the second cake into a round cake pan. Let both cakes cool completely.

2) Use a cookie cutter to make holes in the center of the cakes. Keep the center of the cakes to use later.

3) Frost the cakes together and the outside too with a first crumb coat. Let frosting set hard in the fridge or freezer in between coats to make the job easier. Add a second and third coats of the buttercream if needed to cover the entire cake. You don't have to smooth the icing totally, since it's supposed to be a dress, so some ruffles are ok!

4) Insert the doll though the center of both cakes. TIP: Use the left over cake to prop and secure the doll if needed. Add frosting to adhere the doll sides to the cake. Decorate with round candy to hide the seam line.

5) Decorate with fondant snowflakes and more candy on the base of the cake.

  5. Your Elsa cake is fabulous! What fun party decor. I put together a Frozen inspired party for my granddaughter a couple of years ago, but I didn't attempt anything like this beautiful cake. I took the easy route and made cupcakes. Thanks for sharing at Snickerdoodle. Pinning to my party/events board.
