My Al Fresco Boho Chic Thanksgiving Table
To kick off our autumnal post series, I'm sharing a gorgeous al fresco Thanksgiving tablescape that I styled, along with a video to help inspire your own Thanksgiving celebrations!
This autumn table decor has all the things we love and trending in the party scene right now: copper accents, pink hues and a touch of boho chic. What's not to love?! 😍
My Al Fresco Boho Chic Thanksgiving Table
This tablescape was easy to pull off, despite that intricate-looking centerpiece (which is actually a cinch to put together!), and I hope I can give you some creative ideas for your own family gatherings this season and beyond.
Because the weather is still mild in our neck of the woods, I thought it would be a really cool idea to shoot outdoors in our backyard. This is perfect if you're celebrating a Frindsgiving or just chilling you with your family at home, and still enjoying the warmer weather and seasonal scents all 'round.
Of course, if it's chillier near you, or you don't have a backyard, there's no reason why you can't bring the fall festivities indoors! It will look just as pretty!
The Color Palette and Table Styling
When I style any table, the theme and color scheme dictate everything - from napkins, to glassware and food. In this occasion my color palette was copper, wood tones and blush pink/mauve hues.
And due to our boho vibe, I used our wooden (and very distressed) picnic table. I love picnic tables since they come already with a seating area, so it's one less thing on my 'to do' list to think about!
The first thing I did was then to grab some furry throws, blankets and cushions from the house to make the seating arrangement more cozy for guests.
HOSTESS TIP: Shop your own home for decor pieces, and don't be afraid to bring indoor elements out!
DIY Cheat Macrame Table Runner
For my boho chic table I wanted a gorgeous macrame table runner. I saw one online and fell in love with it, but slightly less with the price tag!
So I contemplated making my own macrame table runner. Which led me to Pinterest for DIY tutorials. But because my table was quite long, it would probably have taken me a year to complete, even with the simplest macrame knot!
So back to square one, trying to buy a cost-effective runner online. I then had a light-bulb moment when I came across some fishing nets on Amazon - they looked like the simple macrame runner I saw on Pinterest. Bingo!
These fishing nets were really long and about $10 each. So I bought two and hoped for the best.
When they arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how "macrame-y" they looked, when you don't spread them out fully! Needless to say, I was over the moon at my ingenious substitution, if I may say so myself 😉
HOSTESS TIP: Don't think you need to splash out on expensive linens or decor pieces. With a little creative and lateral thinking, anyone can have a chic table for a fraction of the price!
DIY Boho Chic Place Settings
For each place setting I used my trusty go-to white tableware. I bring these out on almost every party. And as a foodie, I love the food to shine, and am particular about using white plates, whatever the occasion!
Plus, it stops me from hoarding a ton of plates and keeps my costs down. That ain't never a bad thing, right?!
So for the pops of color, I invest in the glassware and napkins. For this table I used some gorgeous mauve glassware, copper tumblers from our friends at Knooop and simple mauve linen napkins.
HOSTESS TIPs: Our friends at Knooop at giving your 15% off a set of 4 deluxe copper mugs with code BIRDSPTY at Amazon at this link, so shop now while stocks last!
These beautiful copper mugs will be a feature on all your holiday tables, promise!
To complete the table settings, I used some mini Christmas tree ornament antlers, cut the strings and used them as place-card holders!
The place-cards are watercolor printables cards (available on demand at BirdsParty.com) that we simply stuck a little feather to for the boho vibe again.
DIY Boho Chic Table Centerpiece
For the centerpiece on this table, I wanted a gorgeous floral arrangement with pink and purple blooms and dashes of white/cream to calm the game and brighten the arrangement. With pheasant feathers and antlers.
I'm not a florist, so over the years I've taught myself to create pretty floral arrangement. For necessity's sake but also for my own pleasure. There's nothing more therapeutic than flower arranging!
But fear not! These things look more complicated than they actually are!
For my formal-looking floral centerpieces, I simply use a piece of floral foam to help me guide the flowers in place. I shared a video and tutorial in last year's Thanksgiving tablescape here.
The technique is the same. You simply vary the blooms to suit your table decor and color scheme! For my arrangement this year I chose anemone, peony, rose, rununculus, Gerbera daisy and hydrangea.
HOSTESS TIP: Mix fresh blooms and foliage, with silk ones to create fuller arrangements that don't cost a fortune and last longer!
To complete the look, I added faux antlers to each side of the floral arrangement, and inserted three pheasant feathers (from Amazon) on either side of the arrangement.
DIY Candle Holders
No table is complete without glistening candles to light up when the sun goes down!
So I used some blush pink taper candles, and for the candle holders, my DIY marbled donut-shaped candle holders.
DIY coming to the blog next week!
Delicious Thanksgiving Apple and Frangipane Tart
Thanksgiving is synonymous with pie. So for the occasion we baked a delicious apple and frangipane tart with crunchy pecans on top for the win!
Recipe coming to the blog soon!
Hope you like the ideas and feel inspired for your own Thanksgiving celebrations! 😊
