Styling a Pretty Royal High Tea Party
The royal wedding is in a few days, are you excited?! I sure am, mainly because the event presents us with the perfect opportunity to host a high tea party to celebrate while watching the ceremony!
I remember the first royal wedding a few years ago only too well. Not only did we shared some very British inspired party ideas to celebrate the occasion, but my scones recipe was also featured on CNN entertainment, and I'll be forever grateful to the Royal Wedding for that! 😉
But of course, spring is also the perfect season for baby and bridal showers. So whether you're watching Meghan and Harry's day of bliss, or you're spending time celebrating a mommy or bride to be, a high tea party is where it's at this season!
And so inspired by the scents and colors of spring, all the romance in the air and by all things girly and pretty (any excuse, right?!) we styled a tea party worthy of royalty, but without the fuss!
Yes, because I'm all up for dainty, whimsical details, but with simplicity and effortless flair in mind. Always!
Styling a Pretty Royal High Tea Party
My original intention was to take the party outdoors and enjoy the gorgeous garden that is currently in full bloom outside our studio. But alas, the weather didn't get the memo on the day, so had to take the party inside.
Obviously all the styling ideas can be taken al fresco just a easily.
Tea Party DIY Decor
For this tea party I was inspired by all things British and how they serve tea over there. My husband is British so I've more than one tea party under my belt! 😉 But I also wanted to keep things casual, easy and modern this time.
For the table, I skipped the tablecloth or runner altogether to keep things clean, sharp and easy. 'Easy' is a word I'm more and more fond of these days...and it's reflected in my styling obviously.
The color palette was pink, gold (a nod to royalty) and white with touches of cream here and there.
For the floral centerpiece there's nothing easier than a pretty bouquet of roses, peonies, anemones and any flower in my color scheme that happens to be in season. Luckily, all my favorite blooms are currently budding, so the floral arrangements were a cinch to put together.
STYLING TIP: If your floral budget is not huge, try mixing quality, faux silk flowers with real blooms and foliage for a fuller bouquet without breaking the bank!
To finish off the tea party look we displayed some tea cups and saucers filled with pink marshmallows, and tea pots that were re-purposed as vases!
Tea Party Food & Drinks
Like I said, I'm more of a coffee kinda gal, so I also skipped the tea (shock horror). Yes, it's my tea party and I chose to serve a cocktail instead. Sorry, not sorry! 😋 But by all means do serve some of your favorite teas for your own tea party...
For this tea party we went with another very British drink though, Pimm's No. 1 Cup.
Pimm's is a typical summer beverage in the UK and associated with Wimbledon tennis tournament, the Chelsea Flower Show, the Henley Royal Regatta and polo matches across the land. So it's more than appropriate for our high tea party!
Pimm's has a dark tea color with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. As a summer long drink, it is also commonly served with "English-style" (clear and carbonated) lemonade, as well as various chopped garnishes like citrus fruits, strawberries, cucumber, and mint leaves. But if you can't find carbonated lemonade then Ginger ale is a common substitute.
The Pimm's Number 1 cup cocktail recipe coming to the blog soon, so be sure to subscribe to get notified by email!
For the party menu, typical tea party delights were served:
* cucumber, cream cheese and chives finger sandwiches
* smoked salmon and herbed mayo sandwiches
* delicious scones served with clotted cream, jam and fresh strawberries
* strawberries and crème patissière tarts
My husband gave me his scones recipe last time there was a royal wedding (featured on CNN, did you see?). So it was only natural we serve scones again, which are super typical of tea parties and approved by her majesty the queen. Trust! 😉
We actually passed the family recipe down to my daughter who loves to bake them for us (as you probably saw on my Instagram stories)! She really surpassed both of us in baking scones, and is now the family's official scone make, bless! ♥
Tea Party Favor Ideas
Tea is obviously great choice to send guests home with mini tins of various favored teas. But also vintage tea cups (you can score them in flea markets or thrift stores) filled with candy or pink marshmallows like we did, wrapped with a pretty ribbon in cellophane would also make great partying favors!
Another super adorable idea for favor are these DIY tea candles made in tea cups like we shared here.
I hope you like the ideas and feel inspired for your own regal tea party this spring, whatever or whoever you're celebrating!
