Day of The Dead Dinner Party Ideas
Inspired by the film, I set off to create a colorful and vibrant tablescape, and to design some themed Dia de Los Muertos party printable invitations and matching printable decor kit for the occasion!
Day of The Dead Dinner Party - Tablescape Ideas
I love all things Mexican - from the exciting cuisine to the dramatic telenovelas. So naturally, hosting a dinner party where Mexican food is on the menu is always a joy for me!
For my Day of The Dead party tablescape , I chose warm, punchy colors like yellow, orange and red, and added a modern twist with black and fuchsia accents.
I love how the styling turned out so dramatic in the end, and as a lover of color, I'd be more than happy to host a diner party like this any time of the year!
For the place-settings, I used these gorgeous woven cotton place mats (shopping list below) that fitted perfectly with the Mexican inspired theme. I layered them with orange square dinner plates and cute sugar skull paper plates for added texture and whimsical charm.
In-keeping with the vibrant but modern color palette, I used yellow napkins, amber water glasses, black flatware and black wine glasses.
To complete each place-setting, I added printable name cards and a little carnation tied to the flatware with colorful ribbon.
No Dia de Los Muertos table is complete without a copious amount of flowers! I used dahlias, chrysanthemums, poppies, ranunculuses and carnations in my chosen color scheme.
For the table floral centerpiece, I simply arranged my bouquet in a pedestal vase and wrapped the vase with black lace as a nod to the party theme. Simple, yet effective!
Day of The Dead Dinner Party - Menu Ideas
Like I said, I love Mexican cuisine and have shared some great recipes already on the blog that would be perfect for this dinner party:
For the shoot however, I made a delicious almond Horchata (non-alcoholic drink, so it's great for the whole family!) and some adorable sugar skull cookies. Both recipes are coming to the blog soon, so be sure to subscribe here so you don't miss a thing! 😍
Those sugar skull cookies were so fun to make, and I can't wait to share the recipe with you! I was inspired by my printable designs and actually drew on the skull faces with edible ink pen!
I LOVED the process so much, and even my daughter joined in the decorating fun. So I guess these yummy cookies also can double-duty as party activities and favors for guests to take home, right?!
But of course, other more traditional Dia de Los Muertos dishes like Pan de Muerto, Posole and Tamales would be a perfect addition to your dinner party menu.
