Spicy Football Cheese Dip Recipe
Since the Super Bowl is coming up, I thought I'd share a super fun to make appetizer for you to add to your grazing board or cheese platters! Oh, and did I mention it's football shaped, AND that we made a video? 🏈😍
Spicy Football Cheese Dip
A grazing board or cheese platter is the perfect way to serve snacks and tasty treats in a casual and super quick way for any game day event you may be hosting this season.
For football season, I simply tailored my board to the crowd and swapped the usual figs, honey and dried fruits, with more "event-appropriate" trimmings like pretzels, salted nuts, cure meats, olives and spicy charcuterie to pair with lashings of beer that is likely to be served! 😉
So for the cheese part, rather than placing 3 or more cheeses on the board as I usually do for my grazing and cheese boards, I opted for a spicy football cheese dip. Not only did it look super fun on the table, but it complemented the other treats beautifully!
This football cheese dip is quite thick (more like a spread) that holds its own, flavor-wise and in terms of texture, on the grazing board among all the other offerings. It's great served with crackers, bread or used as a filling or topping for sandwiches.
My recipe includes smoked bacon, smoked paprika, spicy jalapenos and aged Gouda cheese which also gives this football cheese dip a delicious smokey flavor that is also great paired with a cold beer!
I thought of adding a little dusting of smoked paprika to the outside of the cheese to make it more brown like a real football, but I thought it might overpower the flavors. But if you do decide to add a coating, let me know how it turns out?
The spicy part comes from the pickled jalapenos in the recipe, but it's not overpowering at all. In fact, my kids who are not fans of spice, totally loved it!
You can make the cheese dip at least 3 days ahead and refrigerate, which is also a major time-saver when it comes to entertaining a crowd!
This dip transports really well, so it's also great for picnics or tailgating parties.
