DIY Easy Standing Balloon Rainbow Décor
I'm a sucker for balloon art decorations! They're so inexpensive and add instant wow factor to any space or any party without much effort!
Now that St Patrick's Day is coming up, I couldn't pass up the chance to create a something with balloons in my favorite rainbow color palette!
This DIY standing balloon rainbow décor is SO easy to make, you don't need any Helium or fancy stands, and it comes together in a flash too! But you can also make them in any color you like for any party theme or celebration! 🌈
DIY Easy Standing Balloon Rainbow Décor
I have a ton of fun balloon art projects and DIY inspiration here on the blog, and I have been itching to create a balloon rainbow for a while now.
I imagine this standing balloon rainbow décor on a table top or decorating the front of a desserts table, as part of a balloons installation to welcome guests to a birthday celebration or as a photo booth backdrop décor. But I think it could look fun in any setting really!
St Patrick's Day décor comes to mind, but I'm also thinking it would be fab for baby showers, rainbow or unicorn parties and so many other fun and colorful celebrations now that spring is on the horizon!
For this DIY project, I spent the best part of a day trying to come up with a quick and easy way to create a rainbow made out of thin balloons that didn't involve a lot of equipment nor a degree in balloon art!
Let's just say that my solo efforts resulted in discovering 10,000 ways how NOT to create a balloon rainbow, plus some fingers blisters as a result. 😁
So what's a crafter to do? Head to YouTube, of course! Luckily, I after a little research, I found a lady that shared her simple, yet effective technique for making a rainbow out of thin balloons. So I used that as my basis for this décor.
Her channel is called Jing Jang Joo Jong and it was by far the simplest method I could find for the rainbow balloon itself.
She used the rainbow she created on a window, so she used clear tape to keep the balloon arches together. This is where I changed her tutorial slightly. I wanted to make a standalone rainbow that could be used as a table centerpiece or to place on the floor in front of a table or as a photo booth backdrop. You'll have to watch my video to find out how I made mine. 😉
For this project you'll only need a few materials, which makes it quite an inexpensive project as well, so this is great for adding a big show-stopping piece of décor to any party on a budget!
For my standing rainbow décor, I decided to add some "clouds" to the bottoms of my rainbow to make it a standing piece of décor and anchor the bottom part of the rainbow.
I used white balloons for my clouds and made clusters of 8 balloons on each side of the rainbow.
For these clouds clusters, I made a cluster of four balloons first, then combined two clusters of four to give me eight.
At the end, I simply added more balloons strategically with some more glue dots to hide any areas or gaps that needed hiding. You can use a low temperature glue gun also if you'd like, and add smaller balloons to cover any gaps or holes in your "cloud" clusters. But I tried to use minimal tools for this project in order to make it accessible to all.
