4th of July Garden Picnic Party Ideas
Fourth of July is 'round the corner, and today we've teamed up with Coca-Cola® again as part of our summer #ShareaCokeContest , and to bring you some fun ideas for your Independence Day celebrations!
If you didn't see our first Coca-Cola® summer post, you can check it out here. There's pulled pork involved. Oh, yeah! ;)
4th of July Party Ideas - Red, White and Blue Party Concept
4th of July is synonymous with outdoor fun, BBQ and cook outs, right?!
But since we already shared some fun al fresco cooking ideas in this post, I thought it would be cool to style a desserts bar or little sweet station for afters.
The idea was to create a dedicated space where guests, friends and family can gather around for a relaxed end of day, have some yummy treats, grab a chilled Coca-Cola®, have fun in the garden and watch the fireworks display!
It makes for really easy entertaining, and more of a special celebration I think.
And I'm always up for no-fuss FUN!
4th of July Party Ideas - Stars & Stripes DIY Outdoor Decorations
Of course, the red, white and blue color palette had to be honored when selecting the decorations.
But I also wanted a stars and stripes theme running through the table and desserts.
The DIY decor can totally be done in advance, like the fringed balloon tassels (tutorial here), or the super cute patriotic Coke bottle bow ties made from printable designs!
I wanted my Coke bottles to be dressed up for the occasion, and so the stars and stripes, paper bow ties with little red glitter accents were a natural choice.
Don't they look snazzy, my dinky Coke bottles?! ;)
Fresh flowers in this case, simple red Gerbera daisies; honeycomb balls and paper lanterns helped to tie in the decor and party theme together without fuss.
No fuss entertaining is all we want in summer, am I right?!
But outdoor entertaining poses its own too familiar challenges, like the weather. And the wind!!
OMG! Was it windy, or what?!
You can see how windy...trying to keep my hat on!! NOT the easiest of photo booth moments, I tell ya! But messy hair also adds to the fun, right?! ;)
Anyways, to keep the decorations from flying off, I used smooth white pebbles inside the lanterns and wire hooks to "plant" the honeycomb balls into the grass.
And guess what I used for balloons weights?!
You got it! Empty Coca-Cola® bottles filled with salt!
I planned to use colored sand, but couldn't find any at the last minute.
Sugar would have been OK too, but then there's the ant situation...so SALT is the key, my friends!
Inexpensive and readily available in any kitchen.
4th of July Party Ideas - The desserts bar
Like I said, red, white, blue, stars and stripes were on the agenda.
So the food also reflected that.
Starting with our super yum, Coca-Cola® chocolate cupcakes decorated with creamy vanilla frosting, patriotic sprinkles and cute printable 4th of July toppers.
I'm sharing the recipe later along with the funky stripes frosting, but for now I'll let you admire the yumminesss! Did I say YUM?!
To wash it all down, of course, my fave drinks Coca-Cola®! :)
We personalized the bottles with everyone's names from the Share a Coke website (Psst- you can order any name here!).
I also wanted to serve mini pies. But a no-fuss version, thank you.
So I opted for a "deconstructed" version of a cherry pie: Cherries + cherry compote + flaky pastry star cookies on top.
I served it all in little baking cups, which makes it the ideal receptacle to add cream or ice cream on top later ;)
Perfect cherry pie flavors and no-fuss deliciousness = my kind of pie!
And no 4th of July party is complete without popcorn!
But for the occasion I also added star gummy sweets, and peanut covered candy in red, white and blue as well as chocolate candies to each popcorn box, to tie in with our 4th of July colors.
4th of July Party Ideas - Picnic, Outdoors Fun & Games
No outdoor summer party should be complete without some fun and games.
We had so many coke bottles being emptied, which was really handy for our ring-toss game!
I again filled them with salt and placed them inside an empty fruit box painted white.
The rings we had didn't match the colors of the party, so in true party-gal style, I covered them with electrical tape in red, white and blue.
The kids LOVED the game. And I dare say, the grown ups too ;)
We ended up placing a blanket and cushions on the floor, and had a feast with all the yummy treats on offer. A backyard picnic of sorts.
Can you tell the food and drinks went down a treat?! :)
It is the perfect setting to watch the fireworks at the end of the day, and light up some funky sparklers!
The empty Coke bottles were perfect as sparkler-holders too! ♥
