A Llama Fiesta Birthday Party
Cinco de Mayo is approaching, and we can't help but be in fiesta mode 'round here! So, to kick things off, we're sharing this super fun, colorful Llama birthday party today (Llamas may not be Mexican , but they sure love a good fiesta!) 😁
Plus, I'm super excited to share all the details of this party with you (many DIY ideas and easy decorations), because we're also debuting our NEW Llama Fiesta printable collection and invitations!
A Llama Fiesta Birthday Party - The Party Printables
My daughter has transitioned from her obsession of unicorns...to llamas. I guess kids pick up on trends too since I've seen quite a few llama party themes all over Pinterest recently.
So obviously I had to design a llama fiesta printable collection for her 12th birthday!
Her birthday is not actually until later in the year, so this was a "dress rehearsal" of sorts 😋 and also a chance to share some cool DIY and easy ideas with you guys in time for summer and any of your upcoming fiestas!
Fiesta to me rhymes with color, heat and the Spanish word calliente. So I chose red, pink, orange and yellow for the color palette of the printables and the party itself. Muy calliente, right?!
I designed cute llama cut-outs, buffet cards, favor tags, treat toppers and party signs that you can also use to decorate your cake, your table, the party favors and so much more!
I also designed the pretty party invitations with a huge llama on the front! We're actually offering the invitations in two colors (pink and orange) and as always, we can tailor the text to your event, be it a birthday fiesta, a wedding or baby shower!
A Llama Fiesta Birthday Party - The DIY Decorations
With all of the parties I style, I try to put myself in the shoes of other busy working moms. So I try my best to come up with easy, uneatable decor ideas that pack the wow factor with minimum effort.
Here are some easy ideas you can pull off for your own llama fiesta birthday party!
DIY colorful balloon arch
And you can't get easier than balloons garlands! For this llama fiesta party I wanted in fact, a balloon arch to frame my desserts table.
For that, I used latex balloons in various sizes and in the colors of my party. I already shared a DIY tutorial on how to make balloon garlands in this post, so go check that out.
For the arch itself, I just added as many balloons as would fit around my table. It really didn't take long, and I made it myself within one hour using an electric balloon pump. The arch formed itself and I just attached it to the wall behind the table with fishing line and wall hooks.
DIY Flowers and Dots Backdrop
My love of paper flowers is currently rekindled since this DIY post I shared couple of weeks ago on how to make a floral backdrop.
For this llama fiesta birthday party, I chose flowers in the colors of my party palette: red, orange, pink and yellow.
I only made one of each color, as I wanted to create a wall feature just above the cake, but would easily make a few more if you wanted a fuller backdrop.
To complete the backdrop of the table, I simply stuck on the wall card-stock circles to emulate the llama pompoms from our printable llama designs.
I used a scalloped paper puncher to make those and stuck them on with sticky tape.
DIY Table Garland
As you can see I also made a super cute circular garland to hang on the front of the deserts table. I used a mini honeycomb garland and glued more card-stock circles to the gaps.
This is a super quick and easy project but that really helps to tie in the whole decor around the desserts table and again, emulates the pompoms from our cute llama printable designs!
DIY Floral Arrangement
For the main desserts table, I always like to a little pop of color in flower form. So I created a bouquet with some exotic flowers and added more affordable ones like ranunculus and some faux green succulents to the border of the bouquet.
I wrapped my vase with yellow card-stock and added a pompom garland to the center. I love how bright it looks and how easy it was to put together!
A Llama Fiesta Birthday Party - The Desserts Table Menu
DIY Llama Churros Cake
The main centerpiece of my desserts table was this two-tiered llama cake.
There are soooo many types of llama cakes out there on Pinterest, but I wanted to create something that was easy to bake and to decorate for any busy mom. So obviously, I opted for printable decoration! 😉
The cake itself was a churros inspired cinnamon cake with dulce de leche filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. I already shared the recipe for my churros cake here, and the technique for leveling and frosting a tiered cake here.
So to stack the two tiers together, I used dowel rods on the bottoms tier to be able to support the top tier.
I then decorated the edges with red, orange, pink and yellow candy, printable llama designs in pink, yellow and orange, and adorable papel picado flags from Mesa Chic Parties.
Although papel picado is a traditional Mexican decor, it simply looked super adorable on our llama cake!
Homemade Churros Treats Cups
To accompany the delicious churros cake, I wanted to serve real churros in mini baking cups for the mini guests. But I didn't have time to make any and did not find them ready-made in store. So I substituted for mini cinnamon donuts and added dulce de leche to the bottom of the baking cups.
I must say, my kids (and I!) LOVED this combination, and it made it a nice change from churros without being too different in flavor. Plus, it's infinitely easier to make, so I hope you'll have a go too! 😋
I used red, pink, yellow and orange polka dot baking cups and a matching llama head printable to top it all off. I love how easy this treat was to put together!
Llama Popcorn
Well we din't actually serve llama flavored popcorn (that would be gross 😁), but we did make these oh-so adorable llama popcorn boxes to house the buttery popcorn.
For this DIY I simply stuck on a mini papel picado flag from Mesa Chic Parties on the front of a popcorn box, then glued on a cute printable llama sticker on top in the same color as the box and the flag.
This totally was one of my favorite DIYs because it looked so unique and beyond adorable! Did I say adorable enough? 😍
Cactus Juice Mocktails
To wash it all down we served cactus juice aka guava and lime juice.
I simply mixed a batch of store-bought guava juice and added fresh lime juice. The combination is so refreshing and delicious! My kids loved it too, so you can be sure we'll be making a large batch of this for many fiestas to come!
To serve the cactus juice, I used polka dot colored paper cups I had at home in pink, red, yellow and orange, and added matching straws.
To complete the cute drinks, I stuck on a printable llama circle topper to each straw and tied a piece of colored ribbon to match each cup color. It's an easy detail that helps to bring the whole tabletop together and ties all the colors beautifully without much effort!

DIY Llama Place Settings
For kids' the sitting table I carried on the party colors with round card stock chargers (I simply cut a circle out of colored card stock!) and layered on top colorful polka-dot plates in pink, red, orange and yellow to match my party palette.
The flatware and linen napkins were also in-keeping with our party colors. But you could use disposable pieces here too.
For the table centerpiece, I did another floral arrangement exactly the same as for the desserts table, which helped to tie the look and styling of the two tables together.
DIY Llama Party Favors
To finish off the look, I added these cute party favor bags to each place-setting.
They contained cactus cookies (recipe coming next week), an adorable mini llama purse, snow-globe and a mini llama ornament.
I decorated the front of the favor bags with our printable llama favor tags, which I'm in love with!

So so cute! my nephew is obsessed with llamas and we had a llama fiesta party for him a couple of years ago. My sister decorated with paper cacti, we ate tacos and enjoyed a truly spectacular Llama shaped cake too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bright and cheerful party! Pinned it for later!
