Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post.

Spring is nearly upon us and I couldn’t wait to finally transition the decor in my dining room for the season. I do love the cozy winter vibes, but I must admit that I miss my flower touches over the winter months!

The weather is still cold but I’m already longing for warmer days and so I decided to do a little spring cleaning and dress up a pretty table to transition us from winter to early spring with effortless ease, hence this farmhouse tablescape; which would be perfect for a family Sunday lunch or celebration at home!

Spring Cleaning with First Alert

As you know, I’m a huge fan of modern farmhouse decor and was so happy to be able to decorate in this style when we moved to our 1875 old French sheep farm. Of course, the place needed to be done up quite a bit, but we loved the challenge of marrying the property’s old rustic charm with all the modern comforts.

One of the first things we had to immediately tackle was the smoke and carbon monoxide alarm in the dining room which was  of course, non-existent. Smoke and CO alarms should be installed on every level and in each bedroom of your home. And since  alarms don’t last forever and need to be replaced at least every 10 years, spring is the perfect time to do some alarm maintenance alongside all the spring cleaning. Here’s a quick guide:
  • Check the batteries, which need to be replaced every 6 months;
  • Replace all the alarms in the house if needed - Check the manufacture date on the back of your alarms. If it is 10-years old or older, it’s time to replace it!
  • You can then install First Alert’s 10-Year Sealed Battery Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms that provides 2-in-1 protection against both smoke and carbon monoxide, 10-years of protection and eliminates the need for battery replacements and late-night, low battery chirps for a decade! 👍

After spring cleaning, doing all the important safety checks, and putting away my winter decor, it’s time to get busy changing the decor, which is my favorite part!

For my tablescape, I kept things simple with lots of texture, since this was meant to be a transitional tablescape from winter to spring.

I kept the flowers very simple too and quite neutral with a single floral arrangement in the center of the table. I used a thrifted copper watering can as a vase to hold white blooms and eucalyptus branches, which I displayed atop a black wooden tray and wooden chopping board to add height.

For the color scheme, my go-to farmhouse palette of whites, beiges, blacks with wood with green accents did the trick perfectly for this tablescape style I was going for.

For each place-setting, I used hyacinth placemats for added texture and to contrast with the vintage, off-white French farmhouse table.

The plates I used were simple white plates with gold rim, paired with matt black flatware and simple Mason jars as drink goblets to complete the modern farmhouse look.

Instead of napkins, I used black buffalo check tea towels, which looked perfect on this table decor, but cost next to nothing! This is a great stylist’s tip for finding large napkins at a moment’s notice, which I use all the time for my styled tables and is especially handy for a farmhouse decor like this one!

Finally, I added some black metal votive candle holders to add extra warmth and another textural element to my table, echoing all the black decor pieces of the table and the dining room credenza.

For an easy and effortless early spring farmhouse menu to match this tablescape, I’d serve my watercress soup for starters, which is super light and refreshing, a nice slow roast pork for main.

To finish things off, how about my French salted caramel and chocolate tart, which I shared a few days ago here on the blog?! It’s super simple to make, but very delicious and the perfect transitional dessert to kick off the season on a sweet but still comforting note!

For drinks, nothing says “spring” more than a glass of something refreshing like my Hibiscus iced tea, which is also great for your immune system and can be made ahead!
