Tablescape Christmas and Holidays
My Hygge Scandinavian Inspired Christmas Tablescape
This meaning is exactly what I was lookin for when I styled this table. This feeling of effortless comfort and coziness that our Scandinavian friends are so good at re-creating, is something that really appeals to me at this time of year!
My Hygge Scandinavian Inspired Christmas Tablescape
"...it is also speculated that hygge might share its origins from the word hug. Hug comes from the 1560s word hugge, which means "to embrace." - I like that. A lot! 🥰
For a couple of years now, I've noticed my own party and décor style becoming simpler and more functional. And when winter sets in, gimme all the comfort foods as well as cozy socks, sweaters and furry throws!
So, if you like the minimal but inviting hygge look, then this cozy tablescape idea is for you!
I styled my fireplace mantel behind the table as a backdrop with simple candles, a string of Christmas lights in black, white and gray, and a couple of DIY star decorations that you can check out from this video.
This Hygge Scandinavian inspired table décor also a super simple to style on a budget, since most of the décor you can either re-purpose or complement with natural Christmas tree branches and seasonal berries.
This tablescape came together very simply and quickly, which means it's also super friendly for any novice hosting Christmas celebrations at home! 👍😉
The color palette of my table was gray, white and black with dark red accents. So I used a gray tablecloth with white faux fur chargers and white and gray plates.
I chose black flatware, used knotted black tea towels as budget-friendly napkins, simple wine glasses and black votive candle holders to add pops of black to the place settings.
DIY Tablecloth and Placemats
To emphasize the comfort factor, I chose a gray blanket as my tablecloth. here's where you can get super creative using linens or throws as table covers! I've even used scarves in the past as table runners, so don't be afraid to shop your home for a suitable alternative to the conventional tablecloth!
In addition to being an inexpensive option, the blanket gave me the perfect tactile, cozy canvas for my table setting.
As place mats I used white faux fur mats bought last year on sale. Here you would also make your own using velvet or other tactile fabrics like in this DIY tutorial.
For the plates, I kept things clean and simple once again, using my go-to white plates, topped with gray starter plates on top to match the tablecloth color.
DIY Christmas Table Centerpiece
Nothing screams "Hygge Christmas" more than real branches of pine and other seasonal greenery. So for my table centerpiece, I simply took a few clear bottles of various heights and added some clippings from my garden.
If you haven't got a garden, you can get a few branches for sale really cheaply at any Christmas tree farm or garden center this time of year. They may even give them to you for free if you only need a few pieces! 😉
To complete my "floral" table centerpiece, I added faux red berries to the mix, but once again you could use foraged berries or picks from your garden.
I really like how pretty this looks without much time or effort at all! Plus, this arrangement is so simple to make, not to mention that will last well into the New Year, and the smell of fresh pine is just soooo hygge!
To complement the table color palette, I used a black candle holder and gray candles to finish off my centerpiece and add some light to the décor.
DIY Christmas Wreath Place-Cards
To finish off the hygge look, I made these really cute mini Christmas wreaths to use at each place-setting as place-cards.
To make them I used wired garland from the craft store but you could re-purpose and clip parts off an old wreath too, or use a combination of floral wire and real pine branches.
I also used mini pinecones to decorate the tops of the wreaths but your could use red berries too like in this DIY tutorial.
You can see how I made these mini wreath place-cards on the video below.
