I love all the themed Halloween treats around, but my priority these days is to make something delicious but that's also easy and that I can whip up with store-cupboard ingredients if possible 😉

Hence these adorable Halloween Jack O' Lantern hand pies! These yummy pies are not only super fun to look at, but they're also very tasty indeed, only require 2 ingredients, and you can whip up a batch in a jiffy!

The kids can also help to make these yummy, fun Halloween hand pies, which is a huge bonus in my book, and means one less thing for mom to do! 👍😁

Like I said, I used store cupboard ingredients, but if you like, you can totally make your pastry from scratch.

The filling I used was my homemade fig jam, because that's what I had on hand. But I have also used smooth apple sauce, pumpkin purée and and mixture of jam and apple sauce as filling, and they all work great!

So feel free to fill your tasty Halloween hand pies with whatever filling you like! Just be sure the consistency is not too runny, so that the filling stays intact inside the pies.

You can also make these Halloween pies savory. I can't wait to try them with this tasty sweet potato and feta filling like in this recipe!

For the pie pastry, I used store-bought short crust pastry. The secret to working with the pastry is to be sure it's cold so the shapes will cut out more easily.

I also used a cookie cutter and a craft knife to cut out the Jack O' Lantern face features. It was not perfect by all means, but it's Halloween, so don't sweat it too much! Even the slightly misshapen pies looked kind of cool when they came out of the oven! 👻

Usually, I'd add an egg wash to the pies, but because they don't have a lot of surface area on the top, I sprinkled them with a little caster sugar to add some texture and crunch.

These Halloween pies can be eaten warm or cold, so they'd make a  fun lunchbox addition to your kiddos on Halloween. I can also see them packaged nicely on a BOO hamper to give to friends and neighbors.

I like to serve these Halloween hand pies warm alongside a nice glass of chilled milk and a dollop of Dulce de Leche on the side for an extra decadent treat. You could also serve them with a scoop of this tres leches no-churn ice cream on the side. YUM! 🎃
